Here it is April all over again. So, of course you'll find me up on my soapbox once more. Yep, it's National Donate Life Month. And so it is that I ask you all to please take a little time out to make certain that you are registered with the National Donor Registry. It truly means so much to so many of us.
Last year's gift of a kidney helped Kajsa to begin to have a normal life. She can now attend pre-school. In fact it is her absolute favorite thing in the world. Furthermore, her teachers have begun talking to me about her attending regular classes next fall, as she may no longer need physical therapy. As an added bonus to the whole transplant process, I now get my life back. I'm able to work, and enjoy the rebirth of my long dormant social life.
So, yes it matters. It matters a lot!
And for all of you who are already donors, but wonder what else you can do, I present this list which I found over at the Donor Network of Arizona site:
10 Ways You Can Promote Organ Donation:
- Schedule a donation-related program at your church, club or fraternal organization, etc...
- Print an article about organ and tissue donation in a company or organizational newsletter.
- Arrange for your company to place donor cards in everyone's paychecks.
- Write a letter to the editor of your local paper supporting organ and tissue donation and encouraging family communication.
- Arrange to have donor awareness materials distributed at community events and health fairs.
- Ask your physician or other health care providers to display donor cards in their offices.
- Add a donor awareness message or sticker to your written communication or advertising.
- Send an email with a donor awareness message. A donor awareness PSA is available to download for emails at DNA's website www.dnaz.org
- Talk to your family about donating life!
- Remember, whenever you discuss organ donation with someone, that the most important part of deciding to be a donor is telling their family. Most Americans support donation, but few understand that their family will be consulted before the donation can take place.
And lastly, my dear fellow bloggers, we all know that blog topics tend to spread like wildfire. So write a post about someone you know whose life has been affected. If you know no one, perhaps you can simply state some facts, or better yet, draw upon your vast imaginations to create something rich and original.
No matter what path you take, I thank you.
And believe me, so does Kajsa.

I am going to print this out. I work in a pediatrics office and I don't think that we have anything anywhere about organ donation! That's going to change. It may only be a drop in the bucket, but one becomes 2 and 2 becomes 4 and before you know it, the bucket is full and you need another one.

Oops! I meant to ask if I could use the picture you have up there in my post. Can I?
